Osun Osogbo Festival 2025 begins with Iwopopo. Ataoja receives homage and offers royal prayers as officials pledge state support under Governor Adeleke

Osun Osogbo Festival 2025 kicked off on Monday with the sacredIwopopo the traditional cleansing of paths marking the start of Nigeria’s most revered cultural celebration.

At Gbaemu Junction in Osogbo, traditional chiefs, Osun devotees, cultural groups, and government dignitaries gathered to pay homage to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, who led prayers for peace, progress, and prosperity.

The Ataoja, flanked by his wives, offered blessings to those who honoured him, praying especially for government officials, including Osun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Ojo Abiodun.

Speaking at the ceremony, Abiodun pledged the Adeleke-led government’s full support for the festival, reaffirming its cultural and spiritual significance.

“I am here to pay homage to our royal father… Our government holds the Osogbo community in high esteem,” he said.

In return, Oba Olanipekun prayed for Governor Adeleke’s administration, wishing them continued success and a peaceful reign.

“This year’s Osun Osogbo will bring more joy to our people,” the monarch declared.
