The traditional rites began at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, where Oba Ladoja received the symbolic Akoko leaf, an age-old ritual that signifies the right to kingship.

He was then formally crowned at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, in line with Yoruba custom.

The ceremony drew large crowds of dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents, who gathered under tight security to witness the historic moment.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who cut short his annual leave to attend the event, is expected to formally present Oba Ladoja with the staff of office and instruments of authority at a state ceremony in Mapo Hall.

Oba Ladoja’s ascension follows the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun, the 43rd Olubadan, who joined his ancestors on 7 July 2025.
