The traditional ruler, who recently marked his first Oka Day since receiving the staff of office on July 17, highlighted the festival’s importance in preserving the town’s heritage.

Speaking at his palace, Oba Ogunoye described Oka Day as a powerful symbol of togetherness, ancestral reverence, and economic empowerment.

“Oka Day is more than a celebration,” the monarch said. “It’s a spiritual and cultural renewal—a moment when we pray for peace and development, and honor the customs of our forefathers.”

The Oka Day Festival, which has reportedly endured for over 500 years, includes displays by farmers, hunters, and artisans showcasing their crafts.

Festivities also feature traditional dances, artifact exhibitions, and tributes from all quarters of the community.

Local resident Omoroke Olushola praised the event, saying, “This is our heritage. It reminds us of who we are and brings us home, year after year.”
