Seaman’s Schnapps Alaafin of Oyo coronation

Seaman’s Schnapps crowned official drink at Alaafin of Oyo’s coronation, reaffirming its cultural role in Yoruba royal traditions

Seaman’s Schnapps, Nigeria’s leading prayer drink, took centre stage as the official drink at the coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I.

The grand occasion, hosted at Olivet Heights in Oyo, celebrated not only the ascension of a new monarch but also the enduring legacy of Yoruba culture on a global scale.

Dignitaries, royal fathers, and cultural envoys from across Nigeria and the diaspora—including Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, and other corners of the Americas and West Africa—gathered to witness the deeply symbolic event.

The diverse attendance underscored the far-reaching influence and ancestral significance of Yoruba heritage.

Throughout the coronation ceremonies, Seaman’s Schnapps held a visible and honoured role. Its presence was felt across major venues and sacred rites—from libation rituals to blessings offered by traditional leaders—demonstrating the brand’s deep-rooted alignment with honour, spirituality, and cultural prestige.

Mr. Gbemileke Lawal, Marketing Manager for Seaman’s Schnapps, commented on the brand’s involvement: “Being part of this historic Oyo moment reaffirms Seaman’s Schnapps as the drink of honour, heritage, and prestige.

To be at the heart of such a globally significant Yoruba cultural event demonstrates the timeless relevance and stature of our brand.”

Senior Brand Manager, Mrs. Nnenna Uche-Onyenacho, echoed this sentiment, stating: “It was a true delight to witness the pride and power of tradition so beautifully showcased.

Being part of this historic moment as the official drink is not merely an honour—it drives our commitment to do even more.”

Seaman’s Schnapps’ contribution extended beyond ceremonial participation. As a symbol of heritage and respect, it reinforced the brand’s legacy as a custodian of culture—supporting royal institutions and preserving traditional values.

The coronation also served as a vibrant cultural bridge, linking African traditions to their diasporic descendants and reaffirming shared roots.

Following weeks of traditional rites and festivities, the coronation signalled a new era for the Oyo Empire. Amidst the grandeur, Seaman’s Schnapps proved once again that it is more than just a beverage—it is an embodiment of ancestral pride and cultural continuity.

As Yoruba royalty steps boldly into the future, Seaman’s Schnapps continues to stand at the crossroads of history and heritage—uplifting tradition, honouring ancestors, and celebrating a legacy that unites generations across continents.
