Governor Fubara sets Port Harcourt Tourist Beach on path to restoration, aiming to create a hub for arts, culture, and tourism in Rivers State.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has outlined concrete steps to revitalise the long-neglected Port Harcourt Tourist Beach, positioning it as a vibrant centre for arts, culture, and tourism.
The governor revealed that ongoing efforts include sandfilling the swampy areas of the Beach and partnering with an investor capable of transforming the site into a premier tourist attraction.
During his site inspection on Tuesday, Governor Fubara, accompanied by Hon. Israel Ngbuelo, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, as well as other senior officials, surveyed the sandfilling progress and assessed plans to expand the Beach.
“Part of our programme for the Rivers people, and to bring back Rivers State to what it used to be, is to make sure that we revive the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach,” he stated.
The governor noted the recent acquisition of additional land, which will allow for significant expansion of the Beach’s facilities.
Expressing optimism about the Beach’s potential, Governor Fubara highlighted the partnership with a reliable investor ready to redevelop the site into a contemporary tourist centre.
“Our people are already excited that the once-forgotten Port Harcourt Tourist Beach will come back to life,” he said.
Governor Fubara appealed to local youth to support the restoration, urging them to cooperate with contractors and the investor as the Beach undergoes transformation.
He reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to creating a thriving, welcoming space for tourists and residents, with the goal of re-establishing Rivers State as a prime destination for leisure and cultural exploration.
This revival project aligns with Rivers State’s broader vision to boost economic and social growth through arts and tourism, positioning Port Harcourt Tourist Beach as a unique site for relaxation and cultural expression, appealing to both local and international visitors.
