The award-winning rapper came under fire following his performance at the ruling party’s convention, with critics accusing him of ignoring Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship while lending support to a partisan political event.

The backlash intensified online, with some commentators arguing that public figures like Ice Prince should use their platforms to demand accountability from political leaders rather than perform at party gatherings.

Responding to the controversy on a recent episode of the Black Box Podcast, Ice Prince explained that his decision to perform was influenced by his relationship with the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, whom he described as a close family relative.

“Who booked me for that event? My uncle, Nentawe Yilwatda, who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” he said.

His clarification has added a new dimension to the debate, shifting attention from political endorsement concerns to questions around family connections and professional engagements within the entertainment industry.
