Ondo State tourism investment drive intensifies as Governor Aiyedatiwa invites investors to explore the state’s eco-tourism assets and hospitality potential
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed Ondo State’s commitment to growing its tourism sector by inviting both local and international investors to explore the state’s natural and cultural attractions.
The Governor described Ondo as investor-friendly and said the government is already laying the foundation for a thriving tourism economy through strategic infrastructure projects.
“We are trying to build a lot of infrastructure to support tourism,” Aiyedatiwa said. “Let business-minded people build resorts, build hotels, and we will provide the enabling environment.”
He made this appeal during a visit by the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), following their four-day familiarisation tour and 9th AGM held in Akure.
The state boasts eco-tourism gems such as Idanre Hills and the La Campagne Tropicana Forest Hills & Caves. Araromi Beach and Nibanola Motherland Resort also drew admiration from the delegates, with international operators praising their potential.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted access as a key focus. Three airlines currently service Akure, and road infrastructure is being expanded, including the dualisation of the Ondo-Ore road and the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.
“The deep sea port coming up in that axis will bring immense economic value. This is the time to invest,” he said.
He assured that Ondo remains one of Nigeria’s safest states, emphasising the state’s responsive security architecture.
Accommodation is also improving. While the state currently has one branded hotel, BON Hotel, talks are ongoing with other international hospitality brands.
Tour operators were visibly impressed. Dr Olanma Ojukwu of Gota Voyages called Ondo “a true gem for wellness seekers,” and said she plans to promote it.
Ibrahim Makanjuola of Getittome Travels praised the event’s success and encouraged other states to emulate Ondo’s tourism-friendly policies.
Aiyedatiwa’s approach aligns with global travel trends. The World Travel & Tourism Council recently noted that tourism supports 10 per cent of global GDP and one in every 10 jobs worldwide. Ondo State appears ready to claim its share of that future.
