Nigeria and Burundi strengthen ties through tourism

Nigeria’s Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, met with Ambassador Libérat Mfumukeko, Senior Advisor to Burundi’s President, to discuss enhancing diplomatic and economic ties through tourism.

 

The meeting focused on community-based tourism, cultural exchange, and economic empowerment, aiming to promote long-term partnerships between the two nations.

In a bid to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties through tourism, Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, held a meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Libérat Mfumukeko, Senior Advisor to the Office of the President of Burundi and Special Envoy, in Abuja.

The engagement signifies a growing partnership between Nigeria and Burundi, with both nations eager to collaborate on tourism initiatives.

Ambassador Mfumukeko conveyed a goodwill message from the Burundian President, expressing the country’s eagerness to partner with Nigeria in promoting community-based tourism and cultural exchanges.

He praised Nigeria’s leadership in the tourism sector, emphasising the potential for impactful, long-term partnerships between the two countries.

Minister Ade-John welcomed the Ambassador’s visit, describing it as a reflection of the shared vision between Nigeria and Burundi.

She noted that the collaboration aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to diversify Nigeria’s economy and empower communities through tourism and cultural initiatives.

“Nigeria and Burundi share immense opportunities in the tourism sector, and we are excited to explore synergies that will benefit both economies and strengthen cultural ties,” said Ade-John.

She also highlighted Nigeria’s increasing reputation as a top destination for tourism investment, thanks to its initiatives in sustainable tourism and community engagement.

The meeting explored wider areas of cooperation, such as economic empowerment, capacity building, and deeper cultural exchanges.

Both sides expressed a commitment to turning these discussions into tangible projects that will benefit the citizens of both nations.

To further strengthen the partnership, Ambassador Mfumukeko extended a formal invitation to Minister Ade-John to visit Burundi, showcasing Burundi’s enthusiasm for collaborative tourism development initiatives across Africa.
