The Kwara State Government has called on its citizens to embrace tourism for peace and knowledge. This initiative aims to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

During a rally in Ilorin for the United Nations World Tourism Day, the State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, emphasized the importance of tourism.

Represented by Alhaji Yahaya Muhammed, Olukoju urged the public to use tourism to unite diverse cultures and religions.

According to the theme ‘Tourism and Peace,’ Olukoju highlighted tourism’s role in fostering understanding and connectivity. She stated, “Tourism facilitates movement and exploration of new cultures, enhancing knowledge and insights.”

The Commissioner also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s efforts to position Kwara as a tourism hub. She mentioned key projects like the Institute for Contemporary African Art and Film, the Sugar Film Factory, and the ongoing Ilorin International Conference Centre.

Olukoju stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in developing tourist attractions. This strategy aims to further enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

In support of this initiative, the State Director of Culture and Tourism, Hajia Silifat Aliyu, commended the administration’s efforts. She described the support for the tourism sector as fantastic, ensuring a bright future for Kwara State.
