IPADA Celebrations 2025 gains global momentum as Tinubu hosts envoys, unveils Africa-wide tourism and diaspora development initiative in historic move

IPADA Celebrations 2025 is poised to receive global attention following President Bola Tinubu’s bold decision to host foreign envoys, tourism leaders, and top government officials at the Presidential Villa.

The high-profile gathering, scheduled for 30 July 2025, signals Nigeria’s renewed commitment to transforming cultural tourism and attracting the African Diaspora to the continent.

President Tinubu will use the occasion to extend formal invitations to the IPADA Celebrations 2025, set for November and December at the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The upcoming celebration follows the success of the debut edition last year, which featured ten days of festivities, economic opportunities, and empowerment programmes.

“The concept is all about bringing people of African descent back to their roots,” said Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, the event’s visionary founder. “We are creating an African shopping mall to enable the Diaspora to visit all 54 African countries.”

This year’s launch event will include 774 local government council chairmen, top business leaders, and other dignitaries. In a clear message of continental unity and economic revival, Tinubu will address the audience to present the initiative’s core objectives.

Representing the government at past editions, former Minister Mrs Lola Ade-John has described IPADA as a unique vehicle for repositioning African tourism and promoting international investment.

IPADA Celebrations 2025 is designed to serve as a cultural and economic bridge. With Lagos and Abuja established as key gateways, the initiative offers the Diaspora strategic access points to explore Africa.

The planned construction of six cruise ships, funded by the African Diaspora Central Bank, exemplifies this vision. These vessels will carry travellers from the Caribbean to Lekki, facilitating easy transit to other parts of Africa.

The cruise fleet, projected to cost N6.9 trillion in total, will dock at the Lekki Deep Sea Port. From there, visitors will have access to air travel networks, making intercontinental exploration both feasible and inviting.

The symbolic act of returning via cruise ship replaces the dark narrative of slave ships with one of reconnection, dignity, and celebration.

The project also includes the construction of the Ubuntu Tower, a symbolic and economic hub planned within the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The tower will serve as a continental landmark, representing African unity and resilience.

In terms of immediate economic impact, last year’s IPADA generated over N251 million in tourism revenue through hotels, logistics, and local transportation. Additionally, performance fees totalling N35 million were distributed to Nigerian creatives.

The digital empowerment segment of the event saw 300 participants receive free artificial intelligence training, representing a N200 million investment in the nation’s youth.

Expanding on this success, the Vanuatu Government has pledged to support the training of 1,500 Africans through the IPADA platform. This commitment equates to N636.94 million, reinforcing the growing global partnership behind the initiative.

Akinboboye has laid out a five-year continental strategy, positioning IPADA Celebrations 2025 as more than an annual event—it is a catalyst for long-term tourism, cultural revival, and Diaspora investment.

This year’s iteration will showcase Africa in its diversity and richness while building sustained engagement with Africans abroad.

“No country can develop without its Diaspora,” Akinboboye said. “This initiative is about value creation. We are inviting the world to invest emotionally, economically, and socially in Africa.”

President Tinubu’s role as Chief Host, Global Ambassador, and Grand Patron underscores his commitment to using soft power and cultural diplomacy to promote national and continental goals.

His proactive involvement sends a strong message that Nigeria is serious about leading Africa into a new era of cultural pride, economic prosperity, and global relevance.
