This groundbreaking global heritage movement, rooted in African values, will culminate in TwinsFest 2025, a Pan-African celebration of twinhood and cultural preservation taking place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from 27 to 29 November 2025.

The movement pays heartfelt tribute to the 19th-century humanitarian Mary Slessor, whose extraordinary courage ended the brutal persecution of twins in Nigeria.

Her legacy is no longer just remembered. It is reawakened as a global call to honour every child and preserve cultures once marginalised.

“This is not a marketing campaign — it’s a movement,” said Wilson Chibututu, Co-Founder and Chief Consultant for the Mary Slessor Heritage Project. “We are not just telling the story of twins. We’re reshaping how the world understands Africa’s past, present, and creative power.”

This launch marks more than an event. It signals a bold redefinition of African identity through empathy, remembrance, and unity.

With the leadership of Ambassador Offiong E. Akpan, the progenitor of TwinsFest and Chairman of the Mary Slessor Heritage Project, the movement aims to amplify global empathy and elevate cultural legacy through collective storytelling.

At the heart of the initiative lies the upcoming Mary Slessor Heritage & Learning Centre, a historic cultural sanctuary soon to be constructed in Uyo.

This visionary space will feature exhibitions, archives, children’s learning zones, and interactive virtual tools, immortalising the compassion of one woman and celebrating the lives of thousands she helped save.

“History is not just what we inherit. It is what we choose to honour, preserve, and pass on,” Offiong Akpan remarked during the unveiling, capturing the mission of this heritage movement. “From Uyo to the world, we are raising a banner for every forgotten voice and every sacred culture.”

The centre will serve as a physical and symbolic home for African legacy, offering space for healing, cultural exchange, and intergenerational learning. It ensures that Africa’s memory is not lost, but rather revived with dignity and intent.

TwinsFest 2025 is poised to become a global landmark event, drawing participants from across Africa and the diaspora. It is a platform for cultural diplomacy, education, and social innovation.

While it honours twinhood, its wider mission is to spark transformation across sectors and borders.

Supported by the Government of Akwa Ibom State, represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Culture & Tourism, Hon. Anietie Udofia, the campaign is nationally recognised for its humanitarian depth and socio-cultural significance.

Their endorsement reflects the state’s commitment to heritage, justice, and global cultural leadership.

The execution strategy is led by Our Heritage Branding & Advertising Ltd, Africa’s premier cultural marketing consultancy, tasked with managing communications, media partnerships, and strategic outreach.

Their African-led approach ensures authenticity in execution and powerful storytelling that connects hearts and minds across continents.

“This is a renaissance of values,” said Chibututu, “A cultural reawakening that merges tradition with innovation and history with hope.”

For centuries, twins in various African societies were hidden, harmed, or erased, deemed taboo by tradition. Mary Slessor disrupted that darkness.

Today, the Two Lives One Hope campaign carries that disruption forward as a movement that celebrates life and reclaims dignity.

The global community is now invited to join this bold new chapter in African heritage. From remembrance rises rebirth. From silence emerges celebration. And from the story of one woman’s courage grows a universal message of shared humanity and timeless hope.
