EKO 170 Cycling Challenge debuts in Lagos on Jan 11, 2026, promoting health, sustainable mobility, and showcasing the city’s iconic coastline and infrastructure

Lagos is set to host the debut edition of the EKO 170 Cycling Challenge on January 11, 2026, offering mass participation through the city’s iconic infrastructure and scenic coastline.

The event aims to promote healthy living, sustainable mobility, and highlight Lagos’s vibrant culture and coastal beauty.

Endorsed by the Lagos State Government, EKO 170 aligns with the administration’s six strategic development pillars, including traffic management, health, technology, economic growth, tourism, and governance.

The challenge is expected to attract over 1,000 cyclists, from elite professionals to amateur enthusiasts across Nigeria and beyond.

Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, described the event as a world-class experience that encourages healthier lifestyles while reinforcing Lagos’s reputation as Africa’s model megacity.

“EKO 170 reflects Lagos’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global excellence,” he said.

The race route will start and end at Eko Atlantic City, passing through Victoria Island, the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, and the Lekki–Epe Expressway to Epe, before looping back to a grand finish.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and LASTMA, the route has been carefully planned to minimise traffic disruption and ensure maximum safety for participants and residents alike.
