‘The Weekend’ Nollywood Film Now Showing in Cinemas Nationwide

Following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Nollywood film *The Weekend* is now available in cinemas across Nigeria, showcasing a unique Afrocentric story.

 

After its groundbreaking world premiere in New York at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, *The Weekend* has finally hit cinemas nationwide.

The film, produced by Trino Motion Pictures and distributed by FilmOne, had a star-studded premiere on 30th August at The Filmhouse Cinema Landmark in Lagos, attracting Nollywood icons in Afrocentric fashion.

Directed by Daniel Oriahi and written by Egbemawei Dimiyei Sammy, Vanessa Kanu, and Freddie O Anyaegbunam Jr., the story follows Nikya, an orphan seeking family connections after the loss of her parents.

Her hope lies with her fiancé, Luc, who has been estranged from his own family for over a decade. As Nikya strives to reconnect him with his roots, she soon realises that some family secrets are better left untouched.

Director Daniel Oriahi reflected on the film’s release, emphasising the importance of preparation, noting he developed a 200-page lookbook to guide his vision for the film.

He expressed excitement about the film’s debut in Nigerian cinemas and optimism about the future of Nollywood. *The Weekend* is now available for movie lovers nationwide.
