Qatar Dismisses Visa Rumours

Qatar dismisses visa restriction rumours, confirming Nigerians can apply normally without gender or hotel booking requirements

Concerns had spread online after reports alleged that male applicants would be denied entry unless travelling with their families, and that only women or family groups could secure visas.

The Qatari Ministry of Interior clarified that these claims are false, stressing that Nigerians can continue to apply for visas without additional requirements.

A representative from the Ministry’s visa section told government media that there is no demand for five-star hotel bookings or mandatory return tickets beyond the usual procedures. Any updates to visa policies, the Ministry noted, would only be announced through official channels.

The confusion reportedly stemmed from Discover Qatar, a tourism company working with Nigerian agencies, which suggested that overstays by some travellers had prompted restrictions.

However, Hayya—the country’s official e-visa platform—confirmed that applications are functioning normally, with digital tools available for document submission, tracking, and approvals.

Qatar has become a sought-after destination for Nigerians, thanks to its mix of leisure, culture, business, and world-class hospitality. From luxury experiences to international conferences and weddings, the country offers safe and vibrant opportunities for travellers.

Over the past three years, Nigerian tourism to Qatar has risen steadily, partly due to restrictions in other Gulf countries that redirected West African visitors. Travel experts say accurate visa information is essential to sustaining this momentum.

The Ministry of Interior has urged Nigerians to rely on government websites and the Hayya platform for official guidance. By doing so, travellers can avoid misinformation and enjoy smoother entry into the country.

As global visa rules shift—such as the United States’ recent single-entry limit for several African nations—Qatar’s reassurance provides relief for Nigerians planning upcoming trips.

The Ministry reiterated that Nigerians remain welcome and face no new gender-based or special conditions.
