Nigeria travel lottery investment rises as World Mega Travel commits N60m to fund 18 Nigerians’ trip to South Africa, expanding access to global tourism

World Mega Travel, Nigeria’s first indigenous international travel lottery agency, is investing an additional N60 million to fund 18 Nigerians’ trip to South Africa this year.

This follows a similar initiative in 2023, where the company spent N60.8 million to send 19 Nigerians to Qatar for tourism. The initiative aims to make global travel accessible to more Nigerians regardless of income.

Speaking in Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Chioma Obinna, explained that the company’s goal is to democratise international travel across Africa, starting with Nigeria.

“We are here to prove that travel is not only for the rich by bringing it to every Nigerian who wants to travel through our lottery platform,” she said.

According to her, the travel lottery win includes visa processing, transportation, accommodation, and feeding for the entire trip, with partial sponsorship for shopping.

Obinna added that World Mega Travel is also sponsoring the international education of two Nigerian students this year, expanding the company’s reach beyond tourism.

“There are three categories of people in Nigeria: those who want to stay, global citizens, and those who want to travel but lack the means,” she said.

She also noted that players of the lottery can win a variety of prizes including cash, household appliances, foodstuff, and international passports, with the international trip being the grand prize.

Obinna confirmed that the company is committed to long-term operations despite rising travel costs.

“When we are going to the UK, the cost per person will be N5 million. When we travelled to Doha, it was N3.2 million per person. We are committed to this project for the long haul,” she stated.
