Ogun State’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, urges traditional rulers and community leaders to identify local tourism potential to promote and develop the sector.
In a bid to uncover and cultivate the untapped tourism potential within Ogun State, traditional rulers and community leaders have been urged to identify and promote local tourism opportunities.
This initiative was highlighted by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, during an interview at the Ekusere Festival held in the Ilogbo community of the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
Hon. Fagbayi emphasised that the current administration is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ogun State while focusing on the development of tourism sites within communities.
“We are committed to sustaining our cultural heritage and ensuring that our tourism sector thrives,” he stated.
The Onilogbo of Ilogbo Kingdom, Oba Samuel Ojugbele, also shared insights during the festival, noting its significance in fostering unity and peace among the sons and daughters of the kingdom and non-indigenes alike.
He described Ekusere, the river goddess, as a maternal figure symbolising peace and protection, recalling that the Ilogbo community has not experienced war since its founding in the 14th century.
Oba Ojugbele expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its support, highlighting the need for improved road infrastructure to lower transportation costs in the area.
Chief Akinola Alabi, the Apena of Ilogbo Kingdom, further highlighted the cultural importance of the Ekusere River, stating that it serves not only as a scenic attraction but also possesses healing properties for various ailments, including infertility, epilepsy, and terminal illnesses.
