MTV Base premieres music game show “Know your music”

MTV Base, a leading entertainment brand, on Monday announced that the season premiere of the music game show, ’Know Your Music’ kicks off Jan. 21. Busola Komolafe, MTV Base Senior Channels Manager, disclosed this in a press statement in Lagos state.
According to her, the interactive TV game show which will be airing every Sunday on MTV Base DStv Channel 322 and GOtv Channel 72 at 11:00 p.m would be hosted by Nigerian Video Disc Jockey and Show Compere Adams Ibrahim popularly Known as VJ Adams.“Know Your Music’ is not just a show; it’s an immersive experience that celebrates the universal language of music.
“Contestants will engage in a thrilling showdown of musical knowledge across three captivating segments: Celeb Real Names, Finish the Lyrics, and Music Genius.
“The show promises a harmonious blend of music education, fun, and rewards, with every winner going home with one hundred thousand Naira (N100,000) only.
“In the words of the global conversation around Afrobeat which has intensified, with artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido dominating the international music scene the show offers more than just entertainment,” she said.
According to her, ‘Know Your Music’ speaks to the power of partnerships in creating unique and entertaining experiences.
“It provides a platform for music enthusiasts to connect with music while having fun,” She said.
Speaking on the collaboration with VJ Adams who is also the Founder of Content King Studio, Komolafe explained that it was more proof of the brand’s commitment to delivering engaging content with music at its centre.
She noted that VJ Adams, would guide viewers through musical journey with his infectious energy and extensive musical expertise.
“The show aims to transcend boundaries, uniting people from all walks of life to revel in the joy of music,” she said.
Similarly, on expectations from the new season, VJ Adams expressed excitement on the return of ‘Know Your Music’ now even more captivating on MTV Base.
He said: “Viewers should expect to see their favourite celebrities and their hilarious, entertaining attempts at guessing the real names of popular personalities, finishing the lyrics of songs they love.
“Also they should expect them showing off their knowledge of the music industry. It’s a fun show filled with great vibes and music.
“The music game show is set to become a cultural phenomenon, inviting viewers to harmonize knowledge and entertainment to explore and appreciate music’s ever-evolving landscape.

The contemporary art and photography exhibition “Wake Up!” is back again for a second edition.
Curated by Awele Onwordi, Wake Up! 2 exhibition pays homage to the Nigerian youth and burgeoning street culture which many of its contributing artists reference in their works.

Titled “Young, Wild, Free”, the exhibition celebrates the creativity, resilience, freedom and cultural influence found in Nigerian youth.
Taking aim at societal issues and economic concerns, the exhibit reflects the youth and their refusal to compromise or bow despite all the challenges stacked against them while charting youth culture through art, music, fashion, skateboarding, photography and community.
The exhibition will be held, once again, at the Angel and Muse Gallery at 25 Sumbo Jibowu street off Ribadu Road off Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.
It will open on Saturday 5 September 2026 and will run until 11 September 2026
This second edition which focuses on celebrating, nurturing and exploring artistic practices rooted in youth and street culture will feature works from DENCITY and SUPERGLIDER HOUSE.
Exhibiting artists include Ajilore Kehinde – their work is deeply influenced by Nigerian street culture and works of other artists like Slawn, Peters Ejiro, etc, Chuka Onwordi – graphic designer who embodies themes of death, melancholy and beauty in his works, ZIDYEP – Abuja based creative whose works move between digital and physical spaces through art, graphic design and air brushing , Franklyn Okoye – graphic designer and artist whose works explore themes of identity and hyper-reality, Awele Onwordi – founder & curator of WAKE UP and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans character art, creative logo design, album covers and more , Oluchi Kogolo – digital illustrator whose work explores street culture, personality and storytelling through a raw and playful visual style and Kozetuo Apeji – multidisciplinary artists who work explores experimental approaches to problem solving through both digital and traditional art forms.

Commenting on the exhibition in her curatorial statement, Awele noted that “despite economic instability, limited opportunities and socio-political challenges, Nigerian youth continue to shape culture through music, fashion, art, skateboarding, raves, photography and community.”

Continuing and harping on the raison d’etre of the exhibition she said, “Young, Wild and Free exists to celebrate Nigerian youth while also creating a platform that supports and amplifies them.”
