With the theme “Illuminating Heritage, Celebrating Today,” this year’s carnival embraces both the roots and the future of Edo’s rich cultural landscape.

Organised by Peak Rendezvous Global Limited in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser on Protocol to the Edo State Governor, the festival aims to shine a spotlight on indigenous talent and artistic innovation.

The celebration technically begins in November with the Dreamalive Talent Quest. This music competition is scouting fresh voices from Edo’s three senatorial districts. The winners will later perform during the carnival’s grand finale, bringing grassroots talent to the forefront.

On December 14, the Shine Beer Barn and Christmas Grotto will open in Benin City, building early excitement. It will offer comedy nights, live music, themed beer tastings, and a warm festive atmosphere. It serves as the perfect lead-in to the main events.

The official Edo Carnival 2025 celebration kicks off on December 21 with a Heritage Carnival that includes masquerade displays, traditional dance, musical theatre, and community performances spread across the state. These activities celebrate the deep cultural identity of the Edo people while inviting residents and tourists to join in the joy.

“Edo Carnival 2025 is not just a festival, it’s a movement — celebrating where we come from and where we’re going,” said one of the lead organisers.

On December 23, attention turns to the Cultural Fiesta and Food Festival at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. All 18 local government areas will showcase their unique foods, crafts, fabrics, and traditional music. This immersive experience reflects the remarkable diversity within Edo.

Christmas Eve will feature the Shine Boat Regatta. Scheduled to take place at the Ogba River or another iconic waterway, this aquatic event will highlight Edo’s connection to water culture. Colourfully adorned boats, marine-inspired fashion, and ancestral rites are expected to create a visually stunning experience.

On Christmas Day, the focus shifts to Igun Street for “Through the Eyes of Edo,” a tribute to the state’s famous bronze artistry. This exhibition will bring together traditional craftsmen and digital installations, bridging the past and future of Edo’s art scene.

Boxing Day promises glamour and elegance with the Miss Shinefest Beauty and Fashion Night. Eighteen contestants will grace the runway in garments inspired by “Ancestral Futurism,” blending heritage elements with modern flair. Local designers will take the spotlight as they present cutting-edge fashion rooted in cultural motifs.

The grand finale on December 27 will be the Grand Shine Concert in Benin City. The event will be headlined by Shalipopi, HammerBoi, and Dreamalive Talent Quest finalists. This energetic concert will be accompanied by LED visuals, fireworks, and surprise appearances by top Nigerian performers.

Throughout the Edo Carnival 2025 celebration, the emphasis remains on unity, pride, and progress. By blending tradition with contemporary flair, the festival not only entertains but educates, connecting generations through shared experiences.

Visitors can expect short queues, efficient event coordination, and safety as priorities. The organisers have promised an inclusive experience that reflects the state’s warmth and openness.
