Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, stated this on Tuesday during the 2025 World Tourism Day at the National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan, organised with the Women In Hospitality Nigeria (WIHN) Oyo chapter.

“Oyo state today is the most active in cultural promotion in the entire South-west. We have revived festivals that were once at the brink of extinction, and people are now proud to identify with our heritage,” he said.

The commissioner highlighted that in December 2023, UNESCO officially recognised the Sango Festival of Oyo as a world intangible cultural festival, marking a significant achievement in preserving the state’s traditions.

Looking ahead, Oyo plans to host the 2026 Egungun Festival on May 2, which will feature a symposium in collaboration with the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, aimed at documenting and safeguarding cultural history for future generations.
