Ondo tourism economic revival receives emotional boost as Governor Aiyedatiwa pledges infrastructure upgrades, safety, and investor-friendly policies
The Ondo tourism economic revival is gaining traction as Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa reaffirms his administration’s commitment to making the state a premier cultural and eco-tourism destination.
Speaking in Akure on Saturday, the Governor expressed optimism that tourism will soon play a pivotal role in transforming Ondo’s economy.
He made this declaration while receiving members of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), led by its President, Hajia Bolaji Mustapha, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.
“For people to come to our state, we need to ensure safety, functional infrastructure, and a welcoming atmosphere. This, we have been working on since we came on board,” the Governor said.
“We have moved from isolated access to regional connectivity. Our roads and airport are being upgraded to support our vision for tourism-driven growth.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa listed recent improvements in road infrastructure and the state’s growing reputation for ease of doing business as key elements in his strategy.
According to him, the Ondo tourism economic revival is not just about sightseeing but about positioning the state as a hub for investment, culture, and development.
He stressed that tourism must be supported by a secure and business-friendly environment, adding that strategic partnerships will play a major role in unlocking the sector’s full potential.
The Governor commended NATOP for choosing Ondo as a key destination in its national familiarisation tour, describing their visit as a validation of the state’s tourism appeal.
He also reiterated his administration’s readiness to support private-sector participation in developing hospitality and cultural attractions.
Earlier, NATOP President Hajia Bolaji Mustapha praised the serenity, safety, and welcoming spirit she experienced in the state. She described Ondo as an emerging jewel in Nigeria’s tourism landscape, citing her visit to Araromi Beach in Ilaje Local Government as an unforgettable highlight.
“Araromi Beach is one of the finest in the country,” she said. “It’s clear that Ondo State has enormous tourism potential, and we are pleased with the visionary steps your administration has taken to develop this sector.”
She expressed delight at the hospitality and the clear passion shown by the Governor for the welfare of the people, particularly through improved infrastructure and an enabling environment for investors.
The Ondo tourism economic revival was further highlighted by the presence of key government officials, including Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, and Attorney General Dr Olukayode Ajulo, SAN.
Others present were the Governor’s Special Advisers on Infrastructure, Health, Union Matters, and Women Affairs, who each reaffirmed their departments’ roles in enhancing the state’s attractiveness to visitors and investors alike.
The event signalled a growing confidence in Ondo’s potential to serve as a leading destination for eco-tourism and cultural exploration in Nigeria.
The Governor’s vision is being translated into tangible progress, with roads, facilities, and partnerships forming the backbone of the state’s new tourism agenda.
With continuous support from stakeholders and increased visibility through national associations like NATOP, the Ondo tourism economic revival appears set to become one of the state’s defining success stories.
