The Oloolu Masquerade, one of the most revered Egungun in Ibadan’s cultural tradition, has returned in grand style. From Monday, July 29 to Thursday, July 31, 2025, the ancient figure will make spiritual rounds across the city’s historic quarters.

Announced by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, the Oloolu Masquerade’s movement remains a sacred event steeped in Yoruba tradition.

Uniquely, it does not follow a fixed route—its procession is spiritually guided, making each year’s journey distinct.

Communities expected to witness the awe-inspiring procession include Aafin Olubadan, Beere, Oje, Idi Arere, Agbeni, Oja-Oba, and Oke Aremo, among others.

The masquerade is traditionally forbidden to be seen by women except triplets, believed to be divinely protected.

Residents are urged to respect the sacredness of the event, especially women, and support local authorities to ensure a peaceful celebration.
