Dr Fassy Yusuf, Coordinator of the Ojude Oba Festival Committee, revealed the anticipated turnout during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Friday.

The historic festival, a vital cultural heritage spanning over 200 years for the Ijebu people, is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode.

It is held annually in honour of the Awujale of Ijebuland, drawing Ijebu sons and daughters from across the globe, alongside tourists and dignitaries eager to witness the rich celebration of culture, fashion, and tradition at the Utoro Centre in Ijebu-Ode.

Dr Yusuf detailed the expected participation, noting that approximately 200,000 people are projected to converge at the main pavilion and surrounding Utoro Centre.

Beyond this, an additional two to three million attendees are anticipated across various Ijebu towns and other parts of Ogun State. Furthermore, millions more are expected to join the festivities online through various global live streaming platforms.

Assuring a safe and hitch-free celebration, Dr Yusuf confirmed that comprehensive security measures are being meticulously implemented.

“The Nigerian Police, NSCDC, DSS, the military, Amotekun Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, among others, will be fully deployed to prevent any breach of security,” he stated, emphasising the commitment to a secure environment for all participants.

Beyond its role as a unifying force for the Ijebu people, the Ojude Oba Festival plays a significant part in boosting local economies and promoting Nigerian culture on the global stage.

“This festival showcases our collective pride, unity, and cultural strength. We will not allow any hoodlums or miscreants to disrupt this landmark event,” Dr Yusuf affirmed.

He also extended gratitude to the corporate sponsors and stakeholders whose continuous support reflects shared values of inclusiveness, cultural pride, and national development.

The festival will feature an array of colourful regalia, captivating age-grade (Regberegbe) processions, thrilling equestrian displays, and spirited cultural celebrations, promising an unforgettable experience for all.
