Nnaemeka Achebe unveils 2025 Ofala festival, themed ‘Njiko na Ntachi,’ celebrating unity, perseverance, and the cultural heritage of Onitsha
Nnaemeka Achebe Ofala festival will take centre stage in Onitsha between October 7 and November 2, 2025, as the Obi of Onitsha hosts one of Nigeria’s most revered traditional events celebrating unity, perseverance, and cultural pride.
This year’s festival, themed ‘Njiko na Ntachi’ (unity and perseverance), blends deep-rooted tradition with modern expression reflecting the Onicha Ado N’Idu kingdom’s evolving cultural identity.
The grand highlights of the celebration, the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala, will be held on October 17 and 18.
These events will feature the monarch’s royal parade, traditional dances, and vibrant displays by age-grade societies, expected to draw thousands of visitors and cultural enthusiasts.
Nn’emeka Maduegbuna, chairman of the Ofala strategic marketing and communications subcommittee, said the festival remains a proud expression of Onitsha’s heritage and values.
“This year’s theme emphasises the importance of community and resilience,” Maduegbuna said. “We aim to foster unity, promote resilience, and uphold enduring values that define our community. We invite Nigerians and visitors from across the world to join us.”
Supported by the National Council for Arts and Culture, Globacom, International Breweries, Zenith Bank, and Guinness Nigeria, the 2025 Ofala festival continues to grow as a symbol of cultural diplomacy and tourism in the Southeast.
Media partnerships with Arise TV/THISDAY, Afia TV/Radio, and Pop Central TV will ensure nationwide coverage, while organisers have launched the Ofala mobile app for Android and iOS users to access real-time updates, multimedia content, and interactive event features.
The festival will also include a lecture series in honour of the monarch, the Oreze art exhibition showcasing works by Nigerian and African artists, a youth carnival, a medical and wellbeing outreach, and a thanksgiving service to close the celebrations.
As one of Nigeria’s most anticipated royal festivals, the Nnaemeka Achebe Ofala festival continues to embody the spirit of unity, perseverance, and service to community hallmarks of Onitsha’s enduring cultural legacy.
