Hannatu Musawa inaugurates 2025 AFRIMA organising committee in Abuja to plan Africa’s biggest music awards, promoting culture and creative excellence
Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has officially inaugurated the 2025 AFRIMA organising committee in Abuja.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) will coordinate the ninth edition of the All-Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which is scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30. The theme for this year’s event is Unstoppable Africa.
The LOC comprises representatives from several federal ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council for Arts and Culture, and the Nigerian Film Corporation, among others.
Speaking at the inauguration, Musawa described AFRIMA as “a testament to Africa’s creativity and the vibrant spirit that characterises African music.”
She emphasised the importance of seamless planning and urged committee members to work together with integrity and focus.
“To the members of this committee: thank you for accepting this national responsibility. Your experience and your dedication will be instrumental in making this event a resounding success,” she said.
AFRIMA President Mike Dada expressed optimism about the event’s scale and cultural impact. He noted that the 2025 edition is expected to host more than 25,000 visitors, including music stars, industry professionals, and international fans.
“Our music is globally recognised… but if you don’t tell your story, nobody will hear it. Only the private sector cannot do it alone. We need the policy makers to make it work,” Dada stated.
Founded in 2014 in partnership with the African Union, AFRIMA is the continent’s flagship music awards ceremony. It aims to celebrate African musical excellence and cultural heritage.
The 2025 AFRIMA organising committee is now tasked with delivering an unforgettable experience, showcasing Africa’s creative power to the world.
