Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, offers a unique tourism experience through its stunning waterways. Lagos waterways tourism is growing, thanks to Bolaji Olasode, chairman of Thesaurus Group of Companies and Thesaurus Bay Limited.

Olasode, speaking at a ‘Waterways Tour of Lagos & Creek’ event, highlighted his company’s efforts to move over 1,200 people daily across Lagos’ waters.

His vision extends beyond water transport to include marine tourism, animal welfare, and plans for deploying submarines for tours. These initiatives promise to elevate Lagos waterways tourism on a national and international level.

The Lagos State government, through the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), supports these efforts, ensuring safety and regulation.

The partnership between Thesaurus Bay and Giwa Gardens further enhances the city’s tourism offerings. Tourists enjoy pristine waters, luxurious waterfronts, and the natural beauty of Lagos’ aquatic life.

The event also emphasised the need for more public-private partnerships to boost Lagos waterways tourism.

Experts like Noah Ibrahim, CEO of Novarick Homes and Properties Limited, and Chuks Agwalla, CEO of ACE Geosynthetics, shared their optimism about Lagos’ untapped tourism potential, especially through its inland waterways.

They envision a future where waterway accessibility enhances real estate, entertainment, and employment opportunities.
