Lagos tourism BBC engagement aims to boost global visibility, as Commissioner Benson-Awoyinka promotes arts and culture during strategic London visit

In a strategic move to boost global visibility, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has showcased the state’s vibrant culture during a landmark visit to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) headquarters in London.

The Lagos tourism BBC engagement took place from July 7 to 8, 2025, and featured interactive sessions with BBC editorial and features teams, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at BBC Sports’ Wimbledon coverage.

Invited by the BBC, Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka used the opportunity to spotlight Lagos’ creative industries and cultural offerings. “This is about telling our story on our terms—showcasing the richness of Lagos to the world,” she said.

She expressed optimism that the engagement would inspire cultural exchange and foster international media collaborations to benefit Lagos’ creative economy.
