The Lagos State Government announced the beach as the host venue for the 2025 event on September 27, unveiling ambitious plans to transform the site into a premier tourist hotspot.

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, led a site inspection with stakeholders, highlighting Lagos’ 183 kilometres of beachfront as a major asset, comparable to Cancun or the Maldives.

The state intends to invest in infrastructure upgrades, enhanced security, and improved ferry access to elevate visitor experiences.

A youth empowerment programme will train locals as lifeguards, tour guides, and coastal guards, boosting both employment and safety.

Bolaji Mustapha, President of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators, praised the initiative, predicting Tarkwa Bay could emerge as a world-class destination.

Beach Master Tolulope Bradley pledged commitment to community-led environmental management and enhanced services.

Discussions also addressed electricity improvements, promotion of local cuisine, and specialised security training to ensure an exceptional visitor experience.
