Governor Seyi Makinde plans to promote the Igbo Ora Festival of Twins as a global tourist attraction and UNESCO World Heritage site to boost Oyo State’s economy.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to boosting the state’s economy by promoting tourism, particularly through the renowned Igbo Ora Festival of Twins.

Speaking at the annual World Twins Festival held at Methodist Grammar School in Igbo Ora, the governor, represented by his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, revealed plans to elevate the festival to global recognition, with a long-term goal of achieving UNESCO World Heritage status.

Themed “Twinning for Love, Unity and National Economic Reorientation,” the festival celebrates the unique cultural significance of twins and multiple births in Igbo Ora and Ibarapaland.

Governor Makinde highlighted the importance of the festival to the region, pledging his administration’s continued support for its promotion.

Makinde also stated that his government would improve infrastructure in the state, particularly the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ido/Eruwa road, to support tourism growth. By creating an enabling environment for tourism, he aims to attract more investors to Oyo State.

The event, organised by the Igbo Ora Community Foundation in partnership with the Ibarapa Central Local Government and Twins World Creation Intercontinental, has become a major cultural celebration.

It drew large crowds from across the globe, showcasing the festival’s growing international appeal.

Abass Adigun, a member of the House of Representatives, commended Governor Makinde for putting the Igbo Ora Festival of Twins on the global map.

He emphasised the festival’s role in highlighting the cultural values of the Igbo Ora community and its importance to Oyo State’s economy.
