Gov. Nasir Idris secures ₦330 billion in foreign investment to boost Kebbi tourism

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, announced over **₦330 billion ($200 million)** in foreign investment to develop tourism and cultural heritage, reinforcing Kebbi’s economic and cultural transformation.

 

 

Kebbi State is set for a major economic and tourism boost as Governor **Nasir Idris** revealed that his administration has secured **over ₦330 billion ($200 million)** in foreign investment.

This was disclosed at the **2025 Rigata Annual Cultural Festival** in **Yauri Local Government Area**.

Speaking at the event, Governor Idris emphasized that Rigata is more than just a festival—it is a **symbol of Kebbi’s rich history, culture, and unity**.

The festival, which dates back over 200 years, involves **riverine maneuvers, water sports, and entertainment**, originally serving as a **naval training exercise** for the legendary **Gungu warriors**.

“Our commitment to preserving cultural heritage is commendable,” said Governor Idris. “Rigata showcases the beauty of our traditions, the strength of our community, and the spirit of our resilience.

It plays a crucial role in promoting tourism and economic development in Kebbi, attracting visitors from near and far.”

Governor Idris announced that his administration’s **recent visit to China** resulted in the signing of a **$200 million (₦330 billion) agreement** with reputable investors to develop **tourism infrastructure, local businesses, and artisans** in the state.

 

Additionally, **major infrastructure projects** have been completed in Yauri within 15 months, including:

✅ Reconstruction of **Yauri township roads**
✅ Construction of a **mega school**
✅ Rehabilitation of **Yauri Emirate’s Palace**
✅ Installation of **solar-powered streetlights**
✅ Renovation of **mosques**
✅ Free distribution of **agricultural inputs**

 

Governor Idris highlighted a **remarkable improvement in security**, allowing **farmers to return to their fields** and resume agricultural activities.

“The presence of tourists at this festival is proof that **peace has returned to Kebbi**,” added **Dr. Yusuf Sununu**, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

Dr. Sununu provided a historical background on Rigata, recalling how it originated as a **hippopotamus hunting expedition** by the **Gungu warriors**.

Though colonial authorities banned hippo hunting, the festival evolved into a **prestigious display of wealth, power, and tradition**, later gaining national recognition during **Sir Ahmadu Bello’s visit to Yauri**.

The **National Organising Committee Chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida**, emphasized that Rigata represents more than just a festival—it is a **testament to cultural preservation** and a **catalyst for economic growth**.

“The festival is proof that security has improved in the emirate. Farmers who once feared insecurity are now farming **massively** again,” Bala-Tafida stated.

 

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including:

– **Minister of Budget and Economic Planning**, Sen. **Atiku Bagudu**
– **Former Kebbi Governor**, Sa’idu **Dakingari**
– **Sen. Adamu Aleiro** (PDP Kebbi Central)
– **Sen. Lawal Maidokoli** (PDP Kebbi South)
– **Sen. Bala Ibn-Na-Allah**, former Senator representing Kebbi South

 

With massive foreign investment, improved security, and a renewed commitment to cultural heritage, **Kebbi State is poised to become a major tourism and economic hub in Nigeria**.
