Kebbi State plans to revitalise its tourism sector to boost revenue and attract investment, enhancing cultural festivals and local heritage
In a strategic move to boost internally generated revenue, the Kebbi State government has announced plans to revitalise its tourism sector to attract both local and foreign investors.
The government revealed that the newly established **Kebbi Investment Promotion Council (KIPC)**—formed under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris—is collaborating with the **State Ministry of Commerce** and **traditional rulers** to develop a framework for achieving this goal.
The Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, **Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru**, made this known during a visit to the newly launched **BAYAWURA FM Radio station in Yauri**.
The visit was part of a public awareness campaign aimed at garnering support for the **RIGATA Annual Festival**, an event hosted by the **Yauri Emirate Council** under the leadership of **Emir Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi**.
Highlighting the need for increased revenue, Alhaji Zuru emphasised that **Governor Nasir Idris** is committed to strengthening the state’s infrastructure and improving the lives of its citizens.
He stressed that one of the major strategies to achieve this is through the transformation of Kebbi’s rich cultural festivals into world-class attractions.
To achieve this, the government plans to modernise and revitalise key festivals, including:
– **The Annual Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival**
– **The Zuru Uhola International Cultural Festival**
– **The Yauri Rigata Festival**
– **The Gwandu Emirate’s Horse Racing and Cultural Festival**
The aim is to introduce modern facilities and remodel cultural heritage sites to make them more appealing to investors and tourists.
During the visit to **BAYAWURA FM Radio station**, the Director of Operations, **Mallam Buhari Abubakar Umar**, conducted a tour of the hilltop facility in Yauri.
The station is expected to play a significant role in promoting the government’s tourism agenda and raising awareness about upcoming festivals and investment opportunities.
