Globacom celebrated 20 years of sponsoring the Ojude Oba Festival with car and gift giveaways, reaffirming its support for Nigeria’s creative economy and cultural heritage

Creative economy champions such as Globacom continue to play a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage, as demonstrated by the company’s 20th consecutive sponsorship of the iconic Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The 2025 edition of the festival, held shortly after Eid, brought together dignitaries including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa, and the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Sunny Kuku.

They joined the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in witnessing the vibrant parade of nearly 100 Regberegbe age-grade groups showcasing cultural elegance and unity.

In his goodwill address, Governor Abiodun praised Oba Adetona’s “purposeful leadership, progressive vision and unwavering commitment to the upliftment of Ijebuland and the entire Ogun State.”

Minister Musawa described the celebration as a powerful expression of Nigeria’s “richness of cultural diversity and the resilience of our traditional institutions.”

Highlighting its commitment to cultural promotion, Globacom’s anniversary celebration featured generous giveaways, including two brand-new cars, four tricycles, power generators, sewing machines, and grinding machines. Premium Basmati rice was also distributed to all Regberegbe groups in honour of their participation.

One of the car winners, Opeoluwa Osisanwo, secretary of the festival planning committee and a member of Egbe Tobalase Okunrin, expressed surprise and gratitude. “I never knew people were watching me.

I was just serving my land of birth to the best of my ability,” he said, also acknowledging the Awujale and other committee members for accepting him despite his youth.

The second car recipient, Idowu Olabisi, a trader from Ijebu Igbo, was visibly moved by the gesture. “Globacom indeed gave me a spectacular gift at Eid period,” she said.

Among those who received tricycles were Hassan Toheeb from Ijebu Itele, Adenike Olanrewaju of Molipa, Gazal Temitope from Olisa, and Lawal Tosin, a carpenter in Ijebu Ode  all chosen for their community contributions.

The Ojude Oba Festival, deeply rooted in Ijebu tradition, remains a cornerstone of cultural tourism in Nigeria. Globacom’s enduring support has not only enriched the event but also strengthened the creative economy by empowering local artisans, performers, and cultural institutions.
