Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, said the closure of the airspace was brief and precautionary.

“It was just for a short period. Once the fire was curtailed, the operations started. Planes have been flying in and leaving,”.

Earlier, FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku explained that the authority activated contingency protocols, including the installation of a remote control tower to restore operations swiftly.

“That remote tower should be up in the next 20 minutes, and we will be back to our operations,” Kuku said, noting that flights would resume shortly after activation.

Kuku also disclosed plans to establish a temporary terminal outside the Airport Operations Centre, expected to be operational within days, as part of a robust recovery framework.

She commended the coordinated emergency response, acknowledging support from the National Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Nigerian Air Force, the police and other security and safety agencies.

FAAN had temporarily shut the airspace in line with established safety protocols to prioritise passenger protection.
