Dame Ugochi Madueke, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, said the activities were part of the ways of promoting tourism and showcasing the state’s culture to the world.

According to her, the state government has lightened up the popular Unity Park and decorated it as Christmas Park.

“At Okpara Square, we have five days of activities which started on Saturday with carnival and a road show that was colourful.

“Today (yesterday), we are having Carols of nine lessons, Monday will be a talent haunt for all the upcoming artists in Enugu, Tuesday, we are going to have Ijere and Mmownu Festival, while Wednesday is the grand finale and road block

“All these are for the 2023 Christmas celebration and I am impressed at the massive turnout of the residents. It is going to be an annual event.”

While noting that the state had a lot of tourist sites spanning from waterfalls, caves, streams and many others that were underdeveloped, the commissioner said by next year the state government was going to develop some of the sites.

“The state government is really going to look into it by developing some of them and we are considering having conservation sites that will help tourism in Enugu,” she added.
