Carnival Calabar 2025 draws interest from 71 embassies, as Governor Otu celebrates growing global attention and revamped hospitality in Cross River
Carnival Calabar 2025 International Participation has soared, with 71 embassies indicating interest in attending Africa’s biggest street party, according to Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu.
Speaking during the commissioning of the newly remodeled 4-star Channel View Hotel in Calabar on Friday, Governor Otu highlighted the growing global appeal of the event and emphasized the urgency of quality hospitality infrastructure to meet the demands of international tourism.
“Last year, over 40 embassies expressed interest, but we could only host 12,” the governor revealed. “This year, we’ve already received applications from 71. That shows why private sector investment in hospitality is both timely and necessary.”
Otu applauded Channel View Hotel’s management for self-funding the massive upgrade, calling it a strategic boost to the state’s tourism economy. “Without asking the government for a dime, you’ve set a new standard for hospitality in Cross River,” he said.
Governor Otu reiterated his administration’s commitment to private sector partnerships, describing Cross River as “open for business.”
The hotel’s Chairman, Etiyin Asuquo Ekpenyong, and Executive Director, Andrew Ekpenyong, shared insights into the renovation journey, emphasizing the hotel’s role in renewing tourism confidence in Calabar.
Now boasting 100 newly furnished rooms, fine-dining facilities, and modern amenities, the hotel aims to accommodate the influx of global guests expected during Carnival Calabar 2025.
The event drew dignitaries including former Governor Donald Duke and other top state officials.
