Africa: Mike Chimezie, Founder Tourism Afrikania Wins Top 100 Tourism Personality in Nigeria Award

The Founder of Tourism Afrikania, Mike Chimezie, has been listed as one of the top 100 Tourism Personalities in Nigeria.

Mike Chimezie is an astute and passionate Hospitality and Tourism Education Promoter. A graduate of Hospitality and Tourism Management from the Prestigious University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Mike serves as the Chief Editor, Diplomats Magazine; a sessional quarterly magazine for the Hospitality and Tourism Management Department of the Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

A vibrant Departmental Student’s President in his under graduate days, Mike currently run a Leisure and Tourism Management Masters Programme (in view) and have in his kitty several professional certifications and membership.

He is a Travel Agency Management Graduate at Aeroport College of Aviation and Travel Management, UNSDG Certified Member, Professional Member, Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria, Graduate Member, Nigeria Institute of Management, Trained Hospitality Distribution and Revenue Manager by Institute of Hospitality UK-Nigeria, a bonafide member of the FCT Tourism Volunteers Network, Member of Tourism and Hospitality Industries Thematic Group and a certified Human Resources Professional.

Mike is the Founder of Tourism Afrikania, a global Hospitality and Tourism Management brand that Promotes Hospitality and Tourism Education in Africa. He is a Nigerian from IMO State.

Chimezie Mike is the founder of Tourism Afrikania the Organizers of African Hospitality and Tourism Education Summit (AHTES) an annual event whose 2024 theme is ‘Catalyzing Growth: Empowering Business Solutions through Hospitality and Tourism Education in Africa’ this event is set to hold on the 26th and 27th July, 2024 at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Convener of African Hospitality and Tourism Education Summit (AHTES) and Founder, Tourism Afrikania , Mr. Chimezie Mike.

AHTES 2024 is the gathering of scholars, industry experts, enthusiasts, students, hotels, travel and tourism companies, airlines, culinary schools, aviation schools and B2B entities, in the ever-evolving hospitality space.

Chimezie said the primary objective of AHTES is to drive business solutions in Africa through hospitality and tourism education.

The key focus areas of AHTES 2024 will be on Educational Empowerment; Industry Integration; Innovative Strategies; Global Perspectives and Entrepreneurial Mindset.

‘”AHTES 2024 will dive deep into pressing topics and emerging trends with industry experts and thought leaders on Tourism and Hospitality Education; its impacts to Economic Development in Africa”, Chimezie stated.

Chimezie stated further that AHTES is a forum for participants to gain practical insights and hands-on experience through interactive sessions and case studies.

AHTES 2024 has been officially endorsed by African Tourism Research Network; Association of Tourism and Hospitality Consultants in Nigeria (ATHCON); National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA); Travelscope Magazine; Ghana National Association of Tourism and Hospitality Students; Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN) and Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN).

WAKE UP! Art Exhibition Returns for a Second Act

The contemporary art and photography exhibition “Wake Up!” is back again for a second edition.

Curated by Awele Onwordi, Wake Up! 2 exhibition pays homage to the Nigerian youth and burgeoning street culture which many of its contributing artists reference in their works.

Titled “Young, Wild, Free”, the exhibition celebrates the creativity, resilience, freedom and cultural influence found in Nigerian youth.

Taking aim at societal issues and economic concerns, the exhibit reflects the youth and their refusal to compromise or bow despite all the challenges stacked against them while charting youth culture through art, music, fashion, skateboarding, photography and community.

The exhibition will be held, once again, at the Angel and Muse Gallery at 25 Sumbo Jibowu street off Ribadu Road off Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.

It will open on Saturday 5 September 2026 and will run until 11 September 2026
This second edition which focuses on celebrating, nurturing and exploring artistic practices rooted in youth and street culture will feature works from DENCITY and SUPERGLIDER HOUSE.

Exhibiting artists include Ajilore Kehinde – their work is deeply influenced by Nigerian street culture and works of other artists like Slawn, Peters Ejiro, etc, Chuka Onwordi – graphic designer who embodies themes of death, melancholy and beauty in his works, ZIDYEP – Abuja based creative whose works move between digital and physical spaces through art, graphic design and air brushing , Franklyn Okoye – graphic designer and artist whose works explore themes of identity and hyper-reality, Awele Onwordi – founder & curator of WAKE UP and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans character art, creative logo design, album covers and more , Oluchi Kogolo – digital illustrator whose work explores street culture, personality and storytelling through a raw and playful visual style and Kozetuo Apeji – multidisciplinary artists who work explores experimental approaches to problem solving through both digital and traditional art forms.


Commenting on the exhibition in her curatorial statement, Awele noted that “despite economic instability, limited opportunities and socio-political challenges, Nigerian youth continue to shape culture through music, fashion, art, skateboarding, raves, photography and community.”

Continuing and harping on the raison d’etre of the exhibition she said, “Young, Wild and Free exists to celebrate Nigerian youth while also creating a platform that supports and amplifies them.”
