The musical-dance drama, originally titled Eni Ogun, meaning The Noble Warrior in Yoruba, was written and produced by Nigerian-American playwright Cash Onadele, also known as Aiye-ko-ooto. It blends music, dance, and drama to honour the Nobel Laureate’s legacy.

Directed by Segun Adefila, one of Nigeria’s most respected theatre figures, the production debuted in Abeokuta and Lagos in 2024 to mark Soyinka’s 90th birthday. This year’s staging continues the tribute tradition.

The 2025 performances will feature two daily shows: a Matinee at 3PM and a Champagne show at 6PM, running across all three days — July 11, 12, and 13.

At a Lagos press briefing, Onadele confirmed that his production company, syndk8ml, has received endorsements from the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC).

He anticipates more support to further amplify the production’s impact.

“We want to ensure African creativity thrives on a global scale, continuing to celebrate the enigmatic literary legend annually, even after he has transitioned,” Onadele said.

The Noble Warrior aims to be more than just a tribute — it seeks to inspire a new generation of African creatives while immortalising Soyinka’s influence on global literature and theatre.
