In a video shared online on Tuesday, Spyro questioned why churches and mosques continue with regular sermons while citizens face growing fear, displacement and financial difficulty.

Spyro’s comments on clerics over insecurity issues has generated widespread reactions, as the singer argued that religious platforms should be used to address the country’s pressing challenges and advocate for the welfare of citizens.

“It took me a while to make this video because I was waiting for the response of church and religious leaders,” he said.

The singer specifically referenced prominent clerics including Enoch Adeboye, David Oyedepo, William Kumuyi and Jerry Eze, questioning what he described as a lack of strong public statements on the current situation.

Spyro also extended his concerns to Muslim leaders, asking where influential scholars and clerics were in the national conversation on insecurity.

He argued that religious gatherings should prioritise messages reflecting the realities faced by Nigerians, including violence, economic hardship and national anxiety.

The singer, whose real name is Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, said schools should not continue operating normally under the prevailing conditions, describing the situation as one requiring urgent attention.
