Plateau State Christmas carols festival

Plateau State hosts Obasanjo, Gowon, and others at the Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival, fostering faith, unity, and celebration.

 

 

Plateau State is set to host former President Olusegun Obasanjo, retired General Yakubu Gowon, and other prominent figures at the inaugural Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival.

The event, organised by the Plateau State Government in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), will run from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar in Jos South Local Government Area.

The festival aims to unite the people of Plateau State and beyond through songs of praise, worship, and shared faith in the spirit of Christmas.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the event’s chief host, has declared December 2024 as Tourism Month in Plateau State, coinciding with this celebration to elevate the state as a leading Christmas destination in Nigeria.

According to Samuel Jatau, Secretary to the State Government, the festival seeks to embody the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity, reflecting the values exemplified by Jesus Christ.

 

Key Guests and Highlights

  • Special Guest of Honour: General Yakubu Gowon, former Head of State.
  • Guest of Honour: Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria.
  • Mother of the Occasion: Ambassador Prof. Mary Lar, wife of Plateau’s first civilian governor, Chief Solomon Lar.
  • Music Minister: Renowned gospel artist Solomon Lange.

 

Attendees will experience an uplifting programme featuring gospel music, worship sessions, and community bonding.

The event promises to enhance the festive atmosphere in Jos with illuminated decorations and the sounds of traditional carols.

Governor Mutfwang emphasised the festival’s significance, stating, “This is more than just a celebration; it’s a movement to foster unity, compassion, and faith among the people of Plateau State.

By showcasing our cultural and spiritual heritage, we aim to make this a memorable and transformative experience for all.”

This initiative aligns with the governor’s broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, positioning Plateau State as a beacon of peace, faith, and tourism in Nigeria.

The festival welcomes families, tourists, and dignitaries nationwide to participate in this extraordinary celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the shared values that bind communities together.
