Nihotour Gastronomy Festival shifts to a new date as organisers pursue a Guinness World Record dining table experience

Officials confirmed that the Nihotour Gastronomy Festival will now hold on a new date after consultations with local and international partners, marking a strategic move as organisers target a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest dining table.

The announcement came from the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, which described the event as an Olympic-style gastronomy showcase.

Director General Aare Abisoye Fagade said the festival aims to reflect Nigeria’s heritage, wellness values and culinary sophistication.

He stressed that the experience cannot be rushed, noting that every detail—from the royal-themed table design to the chefs, waiters and dish presentations—must meet strict global standards.

Fagade said the event is intended to be a powerful national culinary statement. He added that the festival will also deepen research into the health benefits of Nigerian cuisine, highlighting the role of food in fostering wellness and happiness.

Director of Planning Victor Salako, who chairs the organising committee, confirmed that the adjusted date will likely fall in the first quarter of the new year.

He revealed that Guinness World Records has issued preliminary approval for the dining concept.

He explained that the festival envisions Nigerians and international guests seated along an extraordinarily long table sharing ideas and experiences about the country’s food and hospitality culture.

Salako said the team is fully committed to precision planning to deliver a dining spectacle that meets global expectations and presents Nigeria as a vibrant culinary destination.
