The annual event, taking place at the IBB Sports Complex in Minna, will feature over 20 elite teams from across the country and abroad, battling for supremacy in one of Nigeria’s most anticipated polo tournaments.

Minna Polo Festival 2025 promises not only high-octane matches but a rich cultural spectacle that reflects the elegance and discipline of the sport.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, who also serves as President of the Minna Polo Club, has invited polo lovers nationwide and beyond to attend the tournament, assuring them of a world-class experience.

Receiving the club’s executive committee at Government House last month, Governor Bago restated his administration’s resolve to use polo as a channel for youth development and tourism promotion.

“We are determined to position Minna polo as a global brand and a key driver of tourism in Niger State,” he said. “Polo is more than just a game—it’s a platform to guide young people towards discipline, teamwork, and excellence.”

Chairman and First Vice President Mohammed Babangida expressed gratitude for the state’s support, noting its role in strengthening Minna’s competitive edge in national tournaments.

He confirmed that preparations for the 2025 edition are in full swing, with strong representation from top clubs nationwide.

Minna Polo Club Captain Jamilu King announced that the Nigerian Polo Federation has formally approved this year’s tournament. He added that major renovations are underway at the IBB Sports Complex to elevate the event’s experience for players and spectators alike.

The festival will feature four major trophies: the IBB Cup, the Governor’s Cup, the Emir of Minna Cup, and the Talban Minna Trophy. Several individual and team prizes will also be contested, adding to the excitement.

The event enjoys solid backing from both the Niger State Government and key sponsors including Profile Group, El-Amin Polo, Mazibe Farm, Niger Food, and Dangote Industries.

Last year’s thrilling matches were headlined by teams such as El-Amin and Phoenix, with the latter claiming the prestigious Aisha Babangida Cup through rising stars like Zayan Fodio and Khalifa Mohammad.

With expectations sky-high for this year’s tournament, the 2025 edition is poised to surpass previous records and cement Minna’s place on the global polo calendar.

Minna Polo Festival 2025 is not just a sporting event; it is a celebration of heritage, youth potential, and Nigeria’s emerging prominence in international polo.
