Local Dialect Mandatory On Wednesdays In Ebonyi Schools – Commissioner

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr Chikadibia Okpor, has said that speaking of local dialect has been made mandatory in all schools in the state on Wednesday.

Okpor made this known to newsmen while briefing them on the outcome of the state executive Council meeting at the old government house annex.

The state Commissioner for information and State Orientation, Engr Okpor said the decision was taken following the report of the dwindling nature of the people dialects which are almost going into extinction.

“Arising from the memo presented to the council by the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism wherein he expressed concern that our local dialects are unconsciously going into extinction.

“Executive Council, EXCO approved that Wednesdays be put aside for learning and speaking of local dialects and directed the State Ministries of Primary and Secondary and that of Tertiary Education to ensure full compliance in schools.

He equally stated that the Executive Council equally approved for appointment, twenty-five permanent secretary to man different ministries in the state and direct the head of Service to commence the process of achieving same with special emphasis on state character system
