Katsina World Hausa Day to showcase heritage as 24 countries join celebrations at the Emir of Daura’s palace on August 26
Katsina World Hausa Day celebrations are set for a historic upgrade this year as the state government finalises preparations to mark the global event on August 26 with unprecedented official backing.
At a press briefing in Katsina, Dr Kabir Ali-Masanawa, Executive Secretary of the History and Culture Bureau, announced that participants from at least 24 countries will join the festivities, honouring the Hausa people’s rich history, culture, and heritage.
For the first time, the state will provide full support, with Governor Dikko Radda personally committed to ensuring the celebration’s success.
The main event will take place at the Emir of Daura’s palace, featuring traditional music, dance, attire, and Hausa culinary displays renowned for their hospitality.
“This is an opportunity to position Hausa culture alongside the world’s most celebrated traditions. Tourists travel to Paris or Rome for history; we want them to come to Katsina for Hausa heritage,” said Malam Abdulbaki Jari, a committee member.
Jari noted that Hausa is now the 11th most spoken language globally and could rise even higher by 2050.
He also revealed first-time participation from the Netherlands alongside delegations from the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, and Ghana.
The event will also connect Hausa communities worldwide through shared photos and videos, fostering unity and pride in their identity.
Ali-Masanawa assured that security is steadily improving in the state, positioning Katsina as both a cultural and Islamic tourism destination.
He extended an open invitation to the global Hausa community and culture enthusiasts to attend in person.
The celebration will be addressed by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar-Faruq, a staunch supporter of Hausa heritage and identity.
