According to a statement by Prince Oluwole Fagbewesa, Principal Secretary to the Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ekiti, Oba Moses Akinwande Ogundana, the New Yam Festival heralds the start of the harvest season.

It is a sacred moment of gratitude, unity, and spiritual renewal, deeply rooted in the town’s agrarian heritage.

The festival will feature the offering of the season’s first yam tubers in traditional rites, symbolizing prosperity. Prayers will be offered to the deities and ancestors by the Onikoyi, alongside vibrant cultural dances, music, and community feasting that reflect the vibrancy of Yoruba traditions.

Meanwhile, the Ogun Festival, honoring Ogun the revered Yoruba deity of iron, warfare, and craftsmanship will follow closely. Described as the spiritual heartbeat of the community, this festival celebrates strength, resilience, and artisanal pride.

A grand procession led by Oba Ogundana, flanked by chiefs, youth groups, and cultural performers, will wind through the streets in a dazzling display of tradition and spirituality.

In a powerful act of inter-community unity, the Onikoyi will join the Asaba of Isaba-Ekiti, Oba Olanrewaju Adeyanju, at the historic Shell Roundabout for joint ancestral prayers.

This ceremonial gathering reinforces the ancestral bond between Ikoyi and Isaba and marks the formal opening of the Ogun Festival for both towns.

Sons and daughters of the land both local and abroad are expected to return home, while dignitaries, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts will flock to witness the rich spectacle.

Under the leadership of Oba Ogundana, Ikoyi-Ekiti continues to promote peace, cultural identity, and communal progress.
