The Idoma Area Traditional Council described the chieftaincy titles bestowed by the Adiharu of Igede as illegal and void, emphasizing that the conferment violated the council’s directive suspending all such titles across the Idoma nation.

The titles were presented to the President through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during the September 6 ceremony in Oju Local Government Area. Four other dignitaries were also honoured at the event.

In a statement signed by council secretary Mr. Adegbe Uloko, the Idoma Council reaffirmed its exclusive authority over chieftaincy matters within its domain.

It declared the recent titles null and void, warning the public and government agencies to disregard them.

The council’s president, His Royal Majesty Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo John, stressed that the move was necessary to safeguard traditional institutions, uphold due process, and maintain peace and unity in the region.

This decision follows a prior suspension of all chieftaincy title conferments, announced on September 2, aimed at regulating and sanitizing the process.
