Ego Boyo African Film Festival Atlanta juror appointment confirmed as she joins the 2026 jury panel, highlighting her impact on African cinema

Nigerian filmmaker, actor and media executive Ego Boyo has been announced as a juror for the fifth edition of the African Film Festival Atlanta 2026, in recognition of her long-standing contribution to African cinema, storytelling and advocacy.

Ego Boyo Takes Jury Role at African Film Festival Atlanta announcement was made on Friday via the festival’s official Instagram page, which also shared her image while highlighting her career spanning decades of creative and cultural influence.

In its statement, the festival described Boyo as “an icon on screen and a force behind it”, noting her acclaimed acting breakthrough in the television drama Checkmate, which first brought her widespread recognition across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The post further highlighted her evolution into filmmaking and advocacy, where she has produced critically acclaimed works under Temple Productions while also championing women’s empowerment through her foundation.

At the 2026 edition of the festival, organisers said Boyo will serve on the jury with a focus on celebrating powerful narratives and elevating stories that inspire meaningful social change.

Other jurors announced for this year include South African cinematographer Kabelo Thathe, writer and producer Darah Denise, and Kenyan executive producer Njoki Muhoho, forming a diverse panel of international film professionals.

The African Film Festival Atlanta, founded in 2020 by filmmaker and cultural curator Mojisola Sonoiki under the African Film and Arts Foundation Inc., is an annual event dedicated to showcasing African and diaspora cinema through screenings, discussions and industry networking.

The 2026 edition is scheduled to take place from 26 to 30 March in Atlanta, bringing together filmmakers, critics and audiences from across the globe in what organisers describe as a celebration of impactful storytelling.
