Blaqbonez’s criticism of the music industry triggers reactions after he accused colleagues of ignoring his new release despite past support

Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez, born Emeka Akumefule, has criticised the Nigerian music industry, describing it as “very wicked” while accusing fellow artistes of failing to support his latest release.

The ‘Chanel’ crooner made the striking remarks in a post shared on his X handle, where he expressed frustration over what he described as double standards among his peers in the entertainment industry.

Blaqbonez stated that despite regularly promoting songs released by other artistes on his social media platforms, many of them allegedly ignored his own project after its release.

“I think this industry is very wicked because since I dropped Chanel, none of my peers have posted it,” the rapper wrote.

Blaqbonez also mentioned international artistes including Drake, Central Cee, Future and Gunna, claiming he had publicly supported their music releases in the past.

The rapper’s remarks quickly generated online reactions, as fans discussed the culture of support, competition, and ego in the Nigerian music industry.

This is not the first time the rapper has openly criticised practices within the industry.

In 2023, Blaqbonez alleged that some artistes relied on streaming farms to artificially boost music streams and manipulate chart performance.

Although music executive Don Jazzy and rapper Odumodublvck rejected the claims at the time, Blaqbonez maintained that stream farming was real and had caused significant damage to the Nigerian music industry.
