The award marks a significant achievement for Egwu and Bush Doctor Studios, the production company behind the film, as the project gains visibility on the international festival circuit.

The 2026 edition of TINFF brought together filmmakers, actors, producers and cinema enthusiasts from different parts of the world, providing a platform for stories and productions from diverse backgrounds.

Anu (Mercy) was selected for screening at the festival and was shown on Friday, 11 September 2026. The film reportedly received positive reactions from the audience before earning the award.

Its recognition highlights the growing opportunities for Nigerian filmmakers to showcase their work to international audiences and strengthen Nollywood’s presence beyond Africa.

Following the announcement, Egwu expressed appreciation to the people who contributed to the production, acknowledging the collective effort involved in bringing the film to the screen.

He specifically recognised co-director Wale Ilebiyi for his contribution, alongside the cast and crew whose work helped bring the project to fruition.

The filmmaker also celebrated the award as a shared achievement, recognising the commitment of those involved in the production.

In a heartfelt gesture, Egwu dedicated the award to late Nollywood veteran Mrs Alwell Ademola Eniobanke, paying tribute to her contribution to the Nigerian film industry.

“I would like to dedicate the award to the late Mrs Alwell Ademola. May her legacy never be forgotten,” Egwu said.

The dedication added a personal dimension to the celebration, linking the film’s international recognition with a tribute to a figure whose work formed part of Nollywood’s history.

For Bush Doctor Studios, the award represents an important milestone as the company’s debut feature gains recognition outside Nigeria.

The achievement also underscores the potential of Nigerian filmmakers to tell stories that resonate with audiences across borders while bringing local perspectives to the international screen.
