Speaking during the State of the District Address themed “Creating Lasting Impact Together,” Rotarian Layi Abidoye introduced the district’s financial and programme framework, calling for disciplined execution and stronger collaboration among clubs to translate plans into measurable outcomes.
Rotarian Layi Abidoye said, “The stage is set. The plans have been made. Now is the time for execution,” stressing that the coming year would prioritise accountability and consistency across all district activities.
A key highlight of the Rotary District 9112 N750m vision plan is a series of high-value humanitarian and infrastructure projects spread across healthcare, education, emergency response and youth development.
In healthcare, the proposed District 9112 Eye Hospital at Imota is valued at ₦350 million, forming one of the largest single interventions in the district’s history.
Additional health initiatives include breast cancer awareness and screening programmes for men and women, neonatal resuscitation training with mannequins and resuscitation equipment, and the donation of five ultrasound machines valued at ₦30 million to maternal health facilities.
Emergency preparedness also features prominently, with a comprehensive fire safety and response enhancement programme estimated at ₦142.825 million, alongside the installation of life-saving defibrillators in public buildings and associated training for emergency response teams.
In the education sector, Rotarian Layi Abidoye announced a package of interventions including ₦12.5 million for the renovation of facilities at SEA School Apapa, and ₦20 million for e-learning infrastructure upgrades and teacher training across five secondary schools.
Youth development will also receive attention through a ₦30 million football competition programme across three local government areas, designed to promote engagement and talent development.
Rotarian Layi Abidoye emphasised that these projects would not be implemented in isolation, noting that clubs will be encouraged to collaborate on global grants while receiving technical support to scale impact across communities.
Beyond infrastructure, the district will pursue a strengthened public image strategy through the establishment of a dedicated media centre, designed to coordinate communication and showcase project outcomes across Rotary clubs.
Quarterly broadcasts will highlight progress and financial transparency within ongoing initiatives.
Environmental sustainability remains another core pillar of the plan, with a commitment to plant 10,000 coconut trees within six months, alongside broader advocacy for waste reduction, reuse and recycling initiatives across communities.
Rotarian Layi Abidoye also reaffirmed youth engagement as a strategic priority, describing young people as “active partners in development rather than future participants alone,” while pledging expanded Rotaract and Interact collaboration.
On fellowship and governance, he urged members to deepen unity and accountability, describing strong relationships within the district as essential to sustaining long-term impact.
Closing his address, Rotarian Layi Abidoye said, “With consistent action, shared responsibility and the Rotary spirit of Service Above Self, we will leave District 9112 stronger than we met it,” drawing a positive response from attendees.
