Blue Lagos begins five solar-powered borehole projects across Lagos riverine communities, alongside medical, humanitarian and livelihood support in Badagry
The Blue Lagos Sustainability Initiative, in partnership with Uriel Construction Limited, has commenced the construction of five solar-powered borehole projects across underserved riverine communities in Lagos State, alongside a multi-sectoral medical and humanitarian outreach in Badagry Local Government Area.

The interventions aim to improve access to safe drinking water, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and waterway safety for residents who often face geographical and infrastructural barriers to essential services.
Uriel Construction Limited is sponsoring all five borehole projects, which are expected to strengthen water access, improve sanitation and support public health in beneficiary communities.
The initiative’s latest outreach was held at Ebute Ajagun, Iworo, bringing medical services and humanitarian assistance closer to residents of Daddy Louis, Ajido, Etesa, Epe and Ebute Eleja, among other riverine communities.
The programme featured free medical consultations and healthcare support sponsored by the Medical and Safety Directorate of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA).
Food palliatives donated by the RHA’s Humanitarian Affairs Directorate were also distributed to residents, while fish-smoking kilns donated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, were provided to support local livelihoods.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) also donated life jackets to improve safety for residents who depend on boats and other forms of water transportation for fishing, trading and everyday activities.
The provision of life jackets forms part of broader efforts to promote safer movement along Lagos waterways, particularly among communities where water transport remains essential.
In a complementary effort to address persistent infrastructure gaps, Blue Lagos and Uriel Construction Limited have commenced five solar-powered borehole projects across four local government areas in Lagos State.
The selected beneficiary communities are:
- Seje Jegba — Badagry Local Government Area.
- Sagbonkodji — Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
- Olomometa — Ojo Local Government Area.
- Agadangba, Ward C1 — Epe Local Government Area.
- Igbo Apawa, Ward D1 — Epe Local Government Area.
The projects are designed to provide more reliable access to water for domestic use and ease the burden on residents who struggle to obtain safe water.
According to the initiative, the use of solar-powered systems is intended to support sustainable water provision while reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources.
Improved access to safe water can also contribute to better hygiene, sanitation, household welfare and public health, particularly in communities where essential infrastructure remains limited.
By combining humanitarian relief with longer-term infrastructure development, Blue Lagos and its partners are seeking to address both immediate needs and challenges that affect residents’ quality of life over time.
Speaking on the interventions, the Team Lead of Blue Lagos, Mr Saheed Adesanya, reaffirmed the initiative’s commitment to ensuring that residents of underserved coastal and riverine communities are not excluded from development opportunities because of their geographical location.
He said the Badagry outreach builds on previous interventions in communities including Sagbonkodji, Bishop Kodji, Takwa Bay and Ilado-Odo in Amuwo-Odofin, as well as Yegunda, Ito Omu, Isan, Oko-Abe, Ito Osun, Saga, Emina and Take Nla in Epe, among other locations.
Adesanya explained that Blue Lagos adopts a community-centred approach that combines immediate humanitarian assistance with practical interventions to improve public health, strengthen livelihoods, promote waterway safety and support sustainable community development.
The initiative’s approach reflects the importance of delivering essential services to communities that may otherwise face difficulties accessing them because of distance, transport limitations or inadequate infrastructure.
Blue Lagos expressed appreciation to its Patron, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, for his support and strategic engagement in advancing the initiative’s community development objectives.
The initiative also acknowledged LASWA’s contribution through the donation of life jackets, aimed at improving safety among residents who rely on the waterways.
Dr Oreoluwa Finnih was recognised for her support for the medical outreach and donation of fish-smoking kilns to strengthen local livelihood opportunities.
Blue Lagos also commended the Humanitarian Affairs Directorate of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, led by Ms Bisola Olusanya, for donating the food palliatives distributed during the outreach and other community interventions.
Uriel Construction Limited received special recognition for sponsoring the five solar-powered borehole projects, which are expected to improve access to essential water infrastructure across the selected communities.
Blue Lagos called for continued collaboration among government agencies, corporate organisations, humanitarian groups, development partners and community stakeholders to expand access to healthcare, safe water, livelihood support and waterway safety initiatives across Lagos State.

As the initiative extends its interventions across Badagry, Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo, Epe and other riverine areas, it says its central objective remains ensuring that underserved communities benefit from sustainable development programmes.
Its guiding principle remains: “No Community Is Left Behind.”
