The Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting people living with disabilities, has lauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for implementing the “Ounje Eko” initiative, aimed at reducing the prices of essential food items at discounted markets across Lagos.

The commendation came during the foundation’s annual presentation of Zakat and food items to its members, held at its headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, on Tuesday.

The Coordinator of the foundation, Kehinde Oshilaja, hailed the government’s efforts, describing the initiative as remarkable.

“Let me use this medium and opportunity to appreciate and thank the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for subsidising food items in Lagos State, as well as the establishment of consumer shops in 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of the state. This is indeed a significant achievement and deserves praise. Future generations will remember your contributions, Mr. Governor,” Oshilaja said.

He also highlighted similar measures taken during Alhaji Lateef Jakande’s administration, which helped alleviate the impact of inflation and rising food prices in Lagos.

Oshilaja urged Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team to sustain these efforts.

The foundation appealed to the Federal Government to address the challenges faced by people living with disabilities nationwide.

In late March, the Federal Government said it was determined to stand by PWDs and protect their rights against discrimination, stigmatisation and marginalisation.

This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Mohammed Isa, at the inauguration of the Leprosy Mission of Nigeria Wellness Connect in Abuja.

Isa said the President had taken measures to ensure full Implementation of the National Disability Act.
